Despite solid goaltending by sub Will Bryant (29 saves, .906 SV%), Team Unfriended dropped their season opener to the Ice Holes (Green) 3-2 on Thursday at the MSA.
It was a tight contest in the first period with no goals for either side. According to the scoresheet, TU only managed 3 SOGs on Hole goalie Joel Voss, while Blue goalie Bryant faced 10.
Unfriended forward Rob Lovaglio lit the lamp at 11:22 in the second with a SHG on Voss. Green answered back at 6:32 when a defensive breakdown left Tommy Harrison open in front of the net and he punched a shot past Bryant. Less than a minute later, Ice Hole Judah Malone ripped a wicked wrister that went 1-hole on Bryant at 5:53. The second period ended 2-1 in favor of the Holes and SOGs 21-16 in favor of the Blue.
TU tied the contest at 11:29 in the third when Blue forward Sean Yemen slid the puck past Voss. Yemen was assisted by Mary Cearley and defenseman Jeremy Webb. With 3:37 remaining in the contest and on the PP, IH's Lawrence Dirks took the puck off his own player in the TU slot and wristed a shot past Bryant to put the Holes up 3-2. TU pulled the goalie for the extra attacker for the final 90 seconds. With only a few ticks remaining, Maggie "Magmo" Cearley had a beautiful save in net to prevent the Holes from going up by 2. The game ended 3-2. TU went 3/4 on the PK. TU was outshot 32 to 29 in the contest.
Team Unfriended takes on Sour Grapes at 6:30PM on Thursday, April 26th at the MSA.
