Unfriended Stomp Grapes

Team Unfriended unleashed a fury of offensive pressure on Thursday evening and defeated Sour Grapes 14-5 at the MSA.  All five TU defensemen had at least one tally and attributed for 6 of the 14 goals scored by Blue in the contest.  Unfriended forward Dean Bender had an outstanding night with 5 points (3G, 2A).

TU rocketed onto the scoreboard at 17:08 in the first when Bender beat Grapes' goalie Bruce Williamson longside.  Bender was assisted by forward Nick "The Legend" Karr and blueliner Dalton "What period is this?" Ford on the play.  At 13:24, Rob Lovaglio fed D-man Tony "Skittles" DiOrio at the point, and DiOrio lobbed a 55-footer that beat Williamson.  Less than one minute later, Blue defenseman Jeremy "Spidey" Webb wristed a shot from the point that sailed 5-hole on Williamson to put Unfriended up 3-0.  Webb was assisted by defensive partner Maggie "Magmo" Cearley and Karr.  SG forward Jason Hallacher got the Grapes on the board at 6:04. TU's Bender answered back when he skated 65 feet, through the SG slot, and beat Williamson with a backhand shot.  With just 18 seconds in the period, Magmo Cearley unleashed a shot from the point that put the Blue up 5-1 in the frame.  Cearley was assisted by #25, Ryan Yemen.  SOGs after one period were 14-9 in TU's favor.

At 16:45 in the second, Ford one-timed a nice feed out of the corner from Bender that sailed along the ice and landed just inside the far side post of Williamson's net.  Sour Grapes answered back less than a minute later with a goal by Will Van der Linde and again at 14:45 with a goal from Ray Sellers.  TU's Joey Blom got on the board next with a powerful shot that hit Williamson and trickled in at 13:17. Things quieted down a little until the 7-minute mark when Blue's Sean Yemen wristed a quick shot that beat Williamson up high.  Yemen was assisted by DiOrioBig Blue's Lovaglio closed out the scoring in the frame with a patient shot that beat Williamson 5-hole, putting Unfriended up 9-3.  Blom got the helper on the goal.  Shots in the second period were 11-5 in favor of TU.

Team Unfriended continued to put offensive pressure on the Grapes in their zone.  Using good perimeter movement and low-cycling, TU exhausted the SG's defense and took advantage of defensive lapses to get quality scoring chances.  Bender lit the lamp for the hat-trick at 14:36 in the third, with the helper coming from Magmo Cearley.  At 9:52, Lovaglio took a dish from DiOrio, curled around the back of the Grapes' net and lifted a shot over a sprawling Williamson to put Blue up 11-3.  TU's Karr scored less than two minutes later with a pretty feed from Bender.  At 6:01, Ford batted down an errant, 6-foot-high clear attempt at the blueline, skated in, and wristed a shot that beat Williamson 3-hole. Sour Grapes would muster two more goals from McIninch and Slaughter in the waning minutes before the horn sounded to end the game 14-5. SOGs were 32-22 in favor of UnfriendedTU went 1/1 on the PK.
